These are just a few pictures I took before our baby shower last weekend.  We had so much fun and got almost everything we needed.  But more than the gifts, we both enjoyed seeing family that we hadn’t seen in a while.  It is such a good feeling knowing that we are bringing our child into this world with such an amazing and loving family.  We truly appreciate everything they have done for us over the years.

Getting A Start On The Nursery

We really haven’t done much in the way of preparing for our child.  We haven’t bought any clothes or toys.  The only reason we have a crib is because it was a Christmas present from my husbands parents.  So for us to paint the nursery was a huge step.  It was a beige/caramel color and we decided to change it to a light grey.

Here’s the before pictures

Not a drastic change I know, but I wanted something a color that would lighten up the room a bit and the grey did just that.  We used Valspar with zero VOC and low odor.  The color is called Granite Dust if you were curious.  It probably took us around 3 hours with taping and painting which wasn’t bad.

I plan on using the navy blue dresser above and having red decorations up on shelves.  My husband is also planning on stripping dresser and repainting it a different shade of blue.  But that project is set for next weekend :)

Home

As most of you know, my husband and I recently moved out of Iowa and down to Kansas City.  For the most part, I am enjoying living down here.  It took some getting used to at first and I’m still not a fan of it always being 95-100 degrees most days but other than that, I’ve found that I enjoy my new surroundings.  Even though I like living here, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that I want to stay here long term.  I feel a connection to Iowa, I’ve lived there my whole life and I still find it weird that I actually live in another state.  I think what I enjoyed most about Iowa, other than being close to family and friends, is the scenery.  Now I know some people don’t think that gravel roads and corn fields are beautiful, but thats what I grew up seeing, its in my blood.

Have you ever moved out of state?  How did you handle missing your home state?  Let me know!

Happy Monday!

Have

Color Choices And A Cute Kitty

I started off this morning by looking at some paint chips in the hopes that some inspiration would strike me.  This did not happen.  I still have no idea what colors I want to paint my walls.  But I’ll tell you what did happen, a pretty cute kitty came to assist me with my choices.

I’m sure he thinks he helped a bunch :)

New Dishes!

So for about 3 years now, my husband and I have been eating off of plates with fruit on them.  They are actually kind of cute but they wouldn’t look good with say an Easter or Christmas dinner served on them.  As one of our wedding presents, my mother in law offered to buy us some nicer plates and serving items.  While she was down helping us move in last weekend, we had some extra time so we packed up the car and we were off in search of dishes.  It didn’t take us long to find some we liked.  I thought I would take some pictures to show you what they look like.  They are kind of almost vintage/antique looking which I love!

I think I’m going to put flowers in this.

And I’m going to put a big fat turkey on this for Thanksgiving!

I bought some fresh raspberries from the farmers market this past weekend and I thought they would look great in a white bowl.  I love the contrast in color.

I thought I would throw in a black and white just for fun!

Have a great day!
