Garden Update

My garden is growing!  Well parts of it anyways.  The beans came up great and the watermelons are really starting to take off, but my tomatoes and peppers aren’t.  At all.  I mean there isn’t the slightest hint that they are even thinking about growing.  They are just empty spots in the garden.  I’m not sure what to do about this.  Do I keep doing what I’ve been doing and hope they pop through, or do I dig up the seed and plant something else?  I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Also, I’ve been noticing that the leaves of the plants are being eaten by something.  It doesn’t seem to be affecting the overall health of the plant so I don’t know what to do.  I’m trying to keep my garden pesticide free so any suggestions about how to get rid of the little buggers naturally would be great.

  1. The little plants look so cute. :)

As for the little buggies, it’s best to determine what kind of pest you have eating your plants, but if you just can’t find the little guys then you could try using Neem oil or an insecticidal soap to get rid of them. Both of these products are all-natural. I’m not an expert on the soils and pests of your area, so I’m not sure I can help with the tomato and pepper problems but every county in the country has a free program called the Extension Office. It is usually through a local university and you can find yours by google-ing “your county name extension office”. Often they have free gardening classes specifically designed for your area and they also have free plant problem diagnosis centers. The people that volunteer at these centers have gone through hours of training and are usually avid gardeners themselves. And it’s all free! Who doesn’t love free?!
